Taken for GrantedAs the Earth spins and turns
All life comes and goes
Flowers bloom
Grass grows
On a hot summer day
The grove trees shade
While we take all this for granted.

A Heretics ConfessionI have wandered and wondered
pillaged and plundered
to find some destiny that was mine

Surrounded by field and hill
I gathered my wits and courage
to stand against what I could not believe

There to this day hangs a man
the one who would be called to guide
the masses astray and awry

I can but stand and mourn the deception
of the father, son and ghost
their description amiss

It is said that for them
the heretics would burn
for the church to be rid of the intelligence within

But god did place upon the few
a knowing of the truth
and understanding of the divine

It is the power to applicate the god within
that sent the sheep to

and broke
my wing
The natives
crushed me

will fly

WordlessWhat doesn’t matter? you ask
your voice full of uncertainty.

The fact that these words that I write
may be the last I ever write

Why would you believe that? you question
When you have overcome so much.

Because it’s what I told myself would happen long ago
And isn’t life a culmination of events made up of what we believe?

But what does that mean? What are you telling me? you prod
Will you never write again?

I laughed, I could not help it, how was I to explain?
Life is a contest, I began, of wills and wont’s.

So you are choosing to stop writing? Is that what you’re saying? you queried
A labyrinth of emotion

In the Heart of the GardenI came awake this morning
With my mouth dry as the desert
My lips chapped
And my eyes crusted
I reached across the vast expanse of my bed
To find myself alone
Rising from sleep’s realm
I walked the corridors of home
Seeking you out
But you I could not find
The dismal hollow of home
Left me retching in the hall
Dizzy and sick with love
I stumbled out the back door
To find you in our garden
You sit humped over the roses
The ones you planted just for me
As I watch you now I know
I love you more today than yesterday
Your gloveless hands full of Earth
Tug at the weeds, even these carefully
Much like you pull at me
